Hi Ray, do you have an IMAC, if you do then I have some good software I use to rip to an SD card for the DVD in the van.

I will look in the morning and post the software name

**update (can'tSleep)**
The software is called DVD-Ripper Pro, below is the quality of MPEG4 file size approx 1.41 GB, AVI is 307 MB:

I believe there is a windows version called WINX DVD-Ripper about $39 = £23, its a shame because the Mac version is only £14

Ray,

Here you go I believe this is what you need. One of the lads at work uses it to put films on his iphone and says it is great so should be just the ticket for you and it is FREE !

http://handbrake.fr/

Edit: Oops just noticed you have already tried it

I will download it myself and see if I can upload a DVD to my ipad.

Ray,

Once you have copied your DVD, to get it on your IPAD just drag the file and drop into the open Itunes window, this should then place it in Home Videos in Itunes, you just need to sync your IPAD

Many thanks I bought the platinum version it worked yippee
I think the free ones I downloaded would have worked , if I had read the manual , you don't get anything for free
I didn't realise you just select one title/chapter, I'm not one for reading info
We'll I did this time, the platinum version selects the correct title for you .the rest must be there to deter copying
And it worked on my iPad
It's like watching paint dry, I copied once as audio not video 45 mins wasted
I'm a Professional now, ouch just banged head walking out of the door lol
Thanks again

I was thinking what a stupid present the IPad air was, I asked for one?, I use an IPhone, been so for some time now
Getting older, sorry got, and vision you cant really search with a IPhone for work related things
Apart from the size of the IPad Air that was its only advantage I can determine at the moment
Sorry a great camera

I think the big benefit comes when you go completely Apple, I have an IMAC instead of a PC, I find them more reliable than a PC, never had a blue screen of death, don't have loads of updates, have a need for AV software and the OS upgrades are free or very few pounds, I have MS Office for MAC loaded (cheaper than for a PC) and any software i need for productivity (i.E DVD Ripping etc) is either free or a very few pounds. I therefore use my IMAC as a PC to create and edit all the items i need for work, hobbies etc, and the bonus is that with Icloud and my Ipad / Iphone i can view these documents etc anywhere and with a couple of cables can share on big screens etc for presentations, so i find the Ipad quite useful, no big laptop bag etc. otherwise the Ipad without the versatility of the whole Apple system is just as good as a Kindle IMHO.

I know one thing is that when i come to replace the kids laptops, they will be going Apple.
