This may be a dumb question, but can someone tell me what this button is for? Looked on line with no success.

I have looked at hundreds of dash photos for Z3s and haven't seen one like it. I don't even know if ir's connected to anything. Push the button and nothing seems to happen, lol.

Probably because you need to reload the machine guns

Looks like and aftermarket alarm to me.

My first re-action was it is similar to UK EWS light which has a combined LED/pushbutton.
Process of elimination - 1. What else do you have on central console (pic) 2 - Do you have a remote alarm system?

Thats what I was thinking, maybe takes a barrel key to activate the alarm
The metal ring looks like a part that you'd offer up your fob to disable the alarm to me.

It doesn't have an alarm, as far as I can tell (can't see anything that looks like one) but it may have at one time. That sounds like the most logical answer! Thanks! If anyone asks, I'll just tell them it's the self-destruct button! =))

The red light suggests it does have an alarm system

Next time you give someone a lift tell them not to touch that button because it's for the ejector seat and you're not sure if it still works

Looks like the touch point for an immobiliser / alarm used to have one similar on my mk2 golf GTI
Little plastic bullet shaped fob with metal end touch each other to set / unset alarm.
My Dakar has a similar style just different shaped fob.

We had that red flash light on our Z3 :p
We had another button to press on our key fob ( a separate fob ) it was a alarm :)
