I had a DSC light and brake light on the dash. A juddering from the steering wheel and no matter how much I reset the steering wheel angle sensors it would re-appear.

There were various suggestions it could be a faulty ABS unit, Wheel speed sensors, ABS unit, DSC unit. The couple of garages I took it to all said it could be the Yaw sensor and was looking at a lot of money to replace

Over a few months (it doesn't get used much) I found that the N/S caliper was slightly sticking. I loosened this off but it began to stick even more throwing up the DSC light more often. The pad wear was not excessive compared to the O/S hence why I did not think it could be causing the problem. But as the caliper was sticking more I wondered if it could be the issue

I decided to start with the caliper before replacing the more expensive parts and it needed to be done anyway. The caliper was £25 off ebay for a 3.0 Z3 so it was worth the punt no matter what.

With the caliper replaced, full brake fluid change, all corners bled the DSC and other lights have never re-appeared and the car has now completed around 400miles since. The Light was coming on every time the car was taken out.

A lot of people post up the DSC fault so it may be worth checking the calipers as like mine they were original and once out I couldn't even move the piston in a vice and the MPG has increased by around 10mpg and the car actually accelerates now.

I had a caliper replaced just over a year ago after noticing the car wouldn't roll backwards in to my usual parking space. When I felt the wheels one felt much hotter than the others. But during normal driving I couldn't feel any problems with the brakes. Now I often touch the wheels after a drive just to check nothing is sticking.

I noticed a little more break dust on the NS wheel and it was a little warmer but nothing to really point to it being a problem. Until it became noticeable it was sticking. Even when I asked the local garages if this could be causing the DSC problem all said no way would it cause any problems like that. For me it was a very cheap fix so just wanted others to add it to their list of things to check in case the DSC light came on. I should have remembered as I had the same issue with my X3 with a rear caliper and kept up throwing up the 4wd light.

I've been getting poor MPG in mine for a while, went to Sommerfest last weekend which was a week after rebuilding the subframe and fitting newly refurbished rear calipers (one was sticky). Since the fill up a few days before it was calculated at just under 25, better than I was getting but not had a decent run for a while. Saturday just gone we fitted 2 brand new front calipers, the old ones were both quite sticky and looking at the OBC I got almost 30 on the run to Zedfest and back. I wonder if sticky calipers have an effect on MPG, I'm hoping this is the case as mine has gone up and may not be just a coincidence as you have also seen a increase?!

I'll keep an eye on this and see what it actually calulates at the next refuel. I've also had a cat back system fitted which may make a difference as the old system was blowing from both the mid and rear boxes. Good on you for pointing this out

I was doing around 17mpg before the caliper was changed. Sunday we did 100miles mixed driving (dual carriageway, country roads and small towns) and I averaged 30.8mpg in the 3.0. It has made a massive difference. The O/S caliper was ok and nice and free so didn't change that. Hard to believe one sticking caliper could make so much difference.

Dragging brakes will almost certainley affect your mpg, engine working harder to propel the car against the dragging brake.
