Managed to start on the big sill inspection this evening.
Removed arches and kick plate. Yet to remove the covers but they are not the nicest looking when you start disrupting things.
Hopefully whip the cover off tomorrow and discover the sills are in better condition.
The sheer amount of dirt and debris lodges behind the arches shows the cause of all this. Busy nights ahead I feel. Blood, sweat and tears. Perhaps I should take up kite flying or embroidery.

That needs a bit of a buff

Take a look at this if you are replacing the sills

Annoyingly had to stick the wheels on and take it off the stands, drive it out the garage to then open the door wide enough to remove that front panel just to remove the one bolt holding it in.
The inner sills aren't pretty. A little bit deflating to see really.

Hahaha, did exactly the same thing. With added annoyance of having to re-fit the jack pads first because I’d already taken them off:banghead:

But they really don’t look too bad and should clean up nicely. I used Deox gel and then epoxy primer. Worked a treat:thumbsup:

Inners treated and then new outer sills painted, sealed and installed.

Thanks for your replies.
After some further inspection didn't look so bad.
Got power tools to it cleaned it up and now Waxoyl'd in and out. Quick check tonight to make sure I'm happy with the results. Picking up my new outer sill Saturday from Sopers for a not too shabby £135.
Paint is on its way too. Hopefully get it back together before my March trip to Scotland. Otherwise I'll be taking the Jeep or the train

Just noticed my shiny new outer sill is smooth and my old one has stone chip paint.
Did they come from the factory stone chipped?
I've got some surplus black stone chip here. Would it work spraying that on first followed by topaz blue?

You can get stone chip in white or grey aerosol Chris, personally I would use grey not black.

I'm going to try and put down a thin coat and then grey primer over that followed by topcoat.
Here she is primered up. Not ideal painting conditions I might add. But beggars can't be choosers.
Cars Waxoyl'd and ready

Not been ideal painting weather mate but the main thing is you got the underside treated. A quick flat off should hopefully be all you need Chris.

Tony.
