Got in the zed this morning on the way to work and tried to roll the window down, heard something which sounded like a bolt dropping inside the door and the window came off the track.

Convinced that Doris did it as I has no issues with the window before!!

I must be, the car is lovely, and it doesn't look like a 20 year old at all but stuff keeps breaking every 2 weeks!!

Faheem, I've said something similar before but if you pay ten bob for a car you need to expect a couple of issues :p:D

its character, ok the cars character is a bas888rd but character all the same. a bit like the plonker next door who desided it would be a great idea to buy and fix up a clapped out land rover on his brand new blocked drive, what a plonker.

to be honest i dont know why i posted that, its the bottle of port i have just drank i think. but he did actually fix up an old car on his new drive, im still in shock with the logic.

You are going to have @Redline on your back now mate....
Many old land rovers probably can be called poxy. They've probably also had an extremely hard life like few other cars. Having seen many in various states of distress I don't think I'd entertain rebuilding one on my drive.

You need to be an enthusiast in the truest sense of the word to do that Ian, would not be for me.

@GazHyde had a poxy Landy.

I had a 1966 SWB, had to carry a lump hammer with me for the starter motor.
Wish I had not sold that Landy now....:(
Yes my son has a ser 1 truck cab on the drive ,now worth stupid money ------ he is regretting the ones he cut up to made comp motors years ago. Some now being imported from USA and Australia

Jues freelander is constantly hammered, up and down dirt tracks everyday. It's that really strong 1.8 petrol and is going strong lol! Second one she's had and the other was spot on as well, we only got rid as it was 18 years old and done 140000 miles.

So the issue is that the pin that hits the striker at the end had popped off, I put it back on, however, the pin misses the striker altogether and the window doesn't stop when it reaches the top.

Also one of the mounting point for the regulator has cracked, no idea how...

Anyone had a similar issue in the past?

This is a picture I stole from the Internet but the metal around the highlighted area has got a crack in it

Can anyone tell me how hard it is to remove the regulator motor from the car? It looks like there are just a few nuts that hold it in place, can anyone confirm?

Another couple of stolen pictures, my regulator looks very similar where the striker doesn't hit the stop and the metal arm has a crack (which is a tad smaller than the one in the picture below)

It's a fairly common fault Faheem, You have to remove all the regulator mounting bolts and disconnect wiring. All undone it will release the regulator to be able to remove it. The cracks in the door are best repaired by welding.

@t-tony Do you know what causes it to fail? Never had an issue with the windows beside from them being very slow to rise when I bought the car but silicone spray fixed that.

At the moment the only crack I can see is one in the below highlighted area (on the mechanism), I'm not sure if that means that there is a crack in the door as well?
