Door Speaker HELP!

I just purchased a mint 97 Z3 with only 62,000 miles. One issue is that the small tweeter and mid in the upper door aren't working on either side. I'm very mechanically inclined but I don't know much about electronics. Can someone point me in the right direction as to what to check. The kick panel speakers work fine on both sides. I've checked balance and fade and when you fade to those there is nothing.

My 98 had the door mounted mid-range and tweeter in full failure mode when I bought the car as well. Turns out in my case the glue had failed in key areas and this was enough to render them useless.
I replaced the tweeter with a 1 inch alpine soft dome and made a bracket for it out of the old speaker. I haven't fixed the mid-range speaker yet and am relying on the speakers behind the seats to fill in that acoustic hole.
I keep wanting to finish the task but am torn because the car is really not set up for good audio, maybe one of these days I will get around to it. I think the car would benefit greatly from a simple 3 way system, a nice subwoofer around 8 inches in diameter, a clean mid-range and tweeters in the door. That's really all it needs but the sub in my mind has to go in the trunk and fire under the top when folded.... An engineering challenge.
Hope this helps!

I'd check that there are actually tweeters fitted in the panel, and that they are plugged in if they exist! Previous owners have a good habit of disconnecting stuff and never reconnecting them.

Check the speakers to see if they are good, you can use an ohm meter to check resistance. Should have around 4 to 6 ohms if memory serves.
If they are electricaly sound then the problem could be upstream, such as wiring, amplifier, etc.
