Just taken delivery of my 4th Z3 P reg. Locking button goes up and down with both key and manually, but door handles don't work. Any suggestions?

Hi @Ginavid, :welcome: to the forum from me in Staffordshire. It sounds like the mechanism has become detached. You'll have to remove the door card and have a look.

Thank you for the prompt response. Problem is I cannot unlock either door to get to the door card. As both doors handles have simultaneously stopped functioning, could it be something else e.g. an isolation switch preventing the door handles working? The car has been idle for some moths but was delivered driveable and doors working. Dealer suggests might be battery? Not convinced.

Hi and welcome from London, try another battery if you can as it seems strange both door solenoids packing up together.

I don't suspect the solenoid as the OP says 'Locking button goes up and down with both key and manually'. It must be a mechanical problem but I agree for both to stop working at the same time is more likely to be an electrical problem.

I'm going to put the battery on charge. If that doesn't work - mechanic - mechanic - mechanic

OK. Thanks everybody, great response considering I only got the car today. I will up-date the forum when sorted.

Hi David I'll look out for you on Monday, meantime welcome from me near Lincoln. Try disconnecting the battery and then try unlocking with the key.

Tony.

To those who responded to my problem with the door locks, sometimes it's the most stupid suggestions that work. One of my wife's carers was having problems with her electric windows. She had to jiggle the car to get the windows to move down. Thought I would give it a try, but started with a gentle nudge to the door from the hip (Ballroom dancing pays off) Both doors free!!! It must have been the handle mechanism just hadn't connected, until I gave it a nudge. Anyway - up and running now and enjoying the Z£ sunshine.

Ah the old hip manoeuvre. I know it well. The door strikers need adjusting to compensate for wear/drop. Unless the doors have been off at the hinges recently and someone has fiddled there.

You may also find a coat of lubricant will help things out enough without adjusting the strikers.
