Door lock misery

Hi there,
I have a 2000 Z3 Roadster, just acquired, and it has a dead door lock mechanism on the passenger door. The key just turns and nothing engages, and you have to open it from the inside. I don't have a clue what it needs, but there is a great shop nearby. What should I be asking for?
