Door card removal trouble

I had to replace my broken door pull on my 1999 Z3 Roadster. I did research to see how to remove the door card. Everything went as planned but there use one section I am unsure about. When I removed the door card a plastic section that is located behind the speaker remained on the door. I honestly wasn't sure if it was supposed to be part of the door card or stayed on the door. I couldn't find any mention of that anywhere. I'm thinking it must have been part of the door card. It has a little plastic door that unsnaps but during the process I apparently snapped off those little tabs. Now that corner of the door panel does not fit tight. Any suggestions?

@g8jka might be able to assist as might @t-tony - good luck and do let the forum know how you get on.

Hi, I think I know what you're referring to and yes it should have stayed on the door card. I'm thinking of the black plastic piece that you can see through the quarter light, the glass that doesn't move with the electric window. It's bonded to the door card with a yellow compound which you should see the remnants of on the card or the plastic. This stuff was a far better bond than say, hot glue which I wouldn't recommend. I'd use Green tube Gripfill, Screwfix about £2.50. Wear gloves it'll stick to anything, especially your fingers!

I think the part you mean is number 17

I bought one about a year ago and it was about £15.00 I think, from my local main dealer.
Mine had the tangs broken off and wouldn't stay in place......didnt think about glueing it !!!

Thank you for the responses. That is exactly right chrisr1949. I saw the yellow compound which made me think it probably came loose. Thanks for the repair compound suggestion. I'll see if I can locate it.

Part 17 is the part I was talking about that has the broken tabs. But the entire plastic piece that the part snaps into stayed on the door when I removed the door card. I glued the little door in place, but need to reattach that entire piece back to the door card. It doesn't seem to be a big problem at the moment since when the door is closed that section of the door is pressed against the side of the dash do it really can't go anywhere...

Quite agree, if I was thinking about your bit I wouldn't consider glueing it.....

Isn't 17 the frame that carries the speaker grille, mounted from the outside of the trim?

17 is a thin kind of triangular little door that snaps into place. I didn't look to see what it actually covers while I had the door card off.
