Dodgy headlight switch

The switch is also a rheostat which, as you turn it, brightens or dims the dash lighting. It's not uncommon for this part of the switch to overheat when it goes faulty like this. Is it stored with the battery disconnected?

Tony.
I'm wondering if the rheostat is now fused in one position? I now have a spare switch but I'm hoping I can repair it. Yes, the battery is disconnected in storage, thanks Tony!

Someone one here almost had a bad mishap through this issue. Maybe Paul @pgunter ?

Hi Tony - So if the switch gives a slight scraping sound - is it a problem / hazard to store the car with the battery connected ( and on trickle charge) even if the light switch is off and the ignition is off?
