DIY wheel re furb

Apologies not my Z but a Mini i have been working on including a full paint treatment and valet, car looking a lot better for a good paint and engine detail spoiled by the wheels suffering with really in grained dirt and contamination. Had a go at wet sanding better but well marked so decided to have a go at a refurb.

Wheels prepared rub down with wet and dry and masked up the tyre valve and masked up with a bin bag rear of wheel,

Weather looking a bit dodgy so got on with 3 coats of red oxide primer, dry's really quickly ready to re coat after 30 minutes. Could have left at that but don't think a Mini Cooper cabrio suits the track day car look

Rains arrived so converted passage into make shift spray booth, i have a very understanding neighbour. 3 coats of top coat later starting to see results

Aerosol spray paints have really come on, very pleased with the finish, now for 3 coats of Lacquer

Difficult to get a picture of all 4 together as it is still raining so working in a tight passage, but very satisfied to how they have come out.
Hopefully have them back on the car tomorrow, also painted calipers whilst the wheels were off. Really enjoying taking what had been a very un loved car into something that belies its 15 years

It was suggested but didn't have any to hand so it had to be a cut up cardboard box. bit of a learning job all way round but confident to do a better job next time.

Yep 3 coats of lacquer on top of 3 coats of colour on top of 3 coats of primer

Thanks for this and Ive decided to give mine a crack after summer now. Maybe a silly question but I guess its best to do all 4 at same time rather than one at a time as I dont have any stands etc so will need to purchase

Alternatively mask the entire car up and do the wheels in situ?

Yes! Did think that but what about the brakes with the spray was my worry?

I stuffed bin bags in the back could do same through gaps in wheel or may be better to treat yourself to some Axle stands they may come in handy at a later date. Pity your not near to me would gladly lend you mine
