I needed to make some bushes to go at the end of a set of gearbox cables as the old ones had perished and kept coming off.

The dealership wouldn't sell the individual bushes and I couldn't find anyone on ebay willing to sell a set of the bushes without selling the cable with it. A pair of cables cost £180 new at the dealers and not wanting to go to a breakers in the current climate I thought I would try and make a set of bushes at home.

I bought a polyurethane kit, its a 2 part system that you mix together and pour into a mould..

You could add pigment to it if you wanted to but as this is purely functional I'm not too bothered...

After curing for 24 hours it's just the right hardness and it's certainly not going anywhere

Cheers. Total cost of the kit was around £14 and could easily make 10 of these from one kit.

I saw a video of someone DIYing polyurethane engine mounts. While I probably wouldn't do that I think the kit will probably be fine for this. :)

Yeah if it gearbox shifter cables should do the job.
There are a lot of modern materials out there now that have immense properties if those engine mounts were all done correctly with good quality products and set properly i would imagine they would be pretty indestructible to a certain extent.

How stiff are these compared to standard bushes or powerflex?
As far as I know there are different firmness rating for polyurethane bushes.

I bought Shore A 65, the higher the number the harder the polyurethane bush...

This video was pretty handy and helped me understand the different grades

The bushes that I made were probably slightly stiffer than the rubber bushes but less stiff than powerflex purple bushes.

Did 100 miles with them fitted to the car and its absolutely spot on.
