Dipped beam

I recently had the glass on the headlights polished up with good results.
Noticed last year the dipped beam was rather yellow in colour.
Here is a photo of the current bulbs.
Are they likely to be original?
Would replacing them with Osram night breakers make much difference?

Yes Nightbrealers and the best mod for Z3 headlights. They're almost as crap as the standard E85 Z4 ones. Fitted in my Z3 and Z4. Xenon in the E89.

I run hir1 (9011) in both dipped and high beam. Google hir1 base mod. It takes about 10 seconds to modify the base. Philips make hir1 bulbs also but they are not nearly as good as the ones below.

The range for 9005 is 1,496 to 1,904 lumens; the range for a 9011 is 1,955 to 2,645 so in reality the best 9005 can pass as a 9011 and be a full 600 lumens less.

These are the real deal and harder to get hold of.

Base Mod

HIR bulb base modification

I have had no problem with running 9011s in my low beam lights. My z has the dipped level setting option on the dash. This combination gives better, brighter light while keeping period look and not going the scatter gun approach of hid or led in a reflector not designed for it.

If you don't want to run 9011 in dipped and high beam then there is always 9012 for dipped. Same base mod applies.

I really urge you to research hir1. See the below information from osram's web site. I have no dog in this fight just researched the crap out of this and spoke to lighting experts like Daniel Stern and the guys at candle power. Do a lot of night driving but wanted to keep the z looking factory but still see. And osram don't do the best hid bulbs
