does a Dinan High Flow Cold Air Intake System increase horsepower... And if so how much on a 98 M S52B32?

Even the decent kits tend to only increase by a negligible amount overall, I've seen various cold air intakes quote around 5-10 bhp (and some which are more optimistic). I've had various ones over the years (Simota, AFE and now a Gruppe M) and you notice the intake noise increase more than any perceivable power gain.

Never had mine on a dyno but when I took it off and went back to stock the car just felt quicker. A great childish wooooosh noise with it on though.

Anything upstream from the MAF is basically steady state flow, so bigger is best.

The limit to flow rate is the orifice diameter of the MAF, less a little bit for the measuring element.

The next thing to consider is the efficiency of the air filter. Running without an air filter is just madness unless you plan to rebuild the engine every few hundred miles. I found by measurement that the standard paper filters are the most efficient in terms of filtration and flow rate.

I did a lot of investigations into this and here's my playlist...

If you just want to do a simple comparison test, all you need is two manometers, a vaccum cleaner and some pipe. My (much more complicated) setup allowed me to get real values. You only need to compare mm of water for filter 1 against mm of water for filter 2.
