I like it just coz it's 'different'

Don't know what BMW diesels go like but Merc CDI turbos go like sh*t off a shovel. So i assume it's pretty nippy. But it probably sounds like a tractor. Or two.

But how did he 'code' that.

Hang on. Have I just been April Fooled?

A mate had a 3.0 diesel 3 series and it was bloody quick. In a little Z3 body it must be rapid. Last tested on 6th. August 2020 at 120,887 miles. Passed with 1 advisory.

BMW diesel? The modern 6 cylinder 330 & 335 are completely insane. My 330 is quick at around 5.5 sec 0-60 but a 335 will do it in 4.7 secs. They are also silky smooth, quiet and do 40+ to the gallon on average. When I put my foot down there's no thought it's a diesel at all.

No idea what vintage the engine is in that Z3. But if the conversion is done well that sounds like a load of fun for little money.

Only difference is your car will be a saloon, a diesel will be more raucous in a roadster, especially with the roof down, but as you say silky smooth and oodles of grunt. The gearbox wouldn't get much use.

I'd agree with that. Though I have to correct you on it being a saloon. It's a hatchback/semi-SUV - Gran Turismo. And I flippin love it. Fairly rare car that traditional BMW owners couldn't get their heads round. But then apart from Z3s as well I'm not really that much of a BMW fan.

Oh well a saloon is the same thing, ie, a closed in cabin . Our friends over in Florida had one of those, alongside a JagWaaar for him.=))

It looks like one of the very early (mid 90s) 2.5’s from a 325 or 525tds. Around 140bhp it original form, so not really comparable to a modern 3.0l torque monster.
They were the first of sports/luxury diesels, and from what I recall well regarded at the time, but can’t quite fathom why anybody would go to the time/expense of putting one in a Z3…..

Yeah I know. Any excuse to mention my car really. The best thing is the amount of cr*p I can get in it.

I’ve got the 330d estate - outstanding car. Most of the power of the 335d, but without the annoyance of 4wd to spoil the fun🤣
