A few years ago I bought the BMTechnics full diagnostic kit ( about £40) as did many others did at the time, rather then buy smaller units which had varying reports/success rates .
For me, this kit has more than paid for itself, but unfortunately BM Technics no longer trade, rumour being that BMW clamped down on copyright issues but we'll never know.
Similar kits are available from http://www.bcables.com which may be the same people. I would opt for this rather than smaller reset tools.

The recent thread I recall was @zedonist and was based on Wifi apps.

I use a c110 from ebay with the adaptor lead. Seems to work and has been helpful to many at @Lee little workshop gatherings. It has though sometimes not reset a service light on a z3.

It has reset air bag and other codes too. Very good all rounder.
