Returned to my body shop chap as they asked me to return after my trip to the soft top man in Swansea to check wheels just to make doubly shore they were tight, yes.
While I was there waiting the dent specialist came in to sort out the back bottom wing/bumper on an Audi A8 and while chatting to him mentioned the small dent and line in passenger door presumed done by shopping trolly and he said that simple I will do it for you when this is done, which he did in 10mins including setting up/moving tools to another garage space and better still it was FREE. Result all jobs done Geoff

I have the OEM blanket, it certainly helps but ONLY if everything is very clean the moment you have a bit of sand or debris on the window to begin with or over the top then that's what is going to start to scratch the window as it will tend to fall and collect on the bend formed by the window middle part, it could also happen on the inside as well if the well where the soft top rests is not free of debris right behind the roll hoops.

...And it stops the full width scratch across window?...
Don't think you'll ever be able to stop it completely. I agree with Mario, you only need a small bit of grit/sand and it will scratch whatever you use

It has some elastic straps with hooks that tie it to the inside frame of the soft top when its up and keep it in position when down

It is a case of poor design by BMW in the first place. We cannot be expected to improve what they messed up in the first place. I use a large towel with a Scottish kilt design to cover my crummy plastic window. The kilt draws attention away from the foggy crummy crappy plastic excuse for a window.
