Never ceases to amaze me how deluded some people are about the value of their cars. Crazy asking prices on adverts are hilarious. Just browsing on f book marketplace and there's a 2004 E85 2.2 71k miles asking £7995 !!! Don't these people cast a glance at other similar cars for sale ? It would be optimistic at half that price.

I think there are a couple of factors at play here. If you are in the market for a Z4, then there are normally quite a few to choose from, so it definitely pays to shop around and don't make any snap decisions.
Saying that, I notice we tend to under value our zeds compared to other countries. I belong to a couple of Facebook groups and the asking price for zeds abroad seems to be much higher.
The thing with selling anything, it's only worth what somebody is willing to pay for it. I have put more money into my Z3 than it's actually worth, so I know I'll never get that money back.

Across the board, some of the asking prices for Z4 and Z3 cars is wild. Some people have been sipping on the Deludamol.

I think this may be reflective of quite a few people paying over the odds last year and before. The cars jumped in value middle of lockdown when everyone was bored in the good weather and a convertible probably seemed like a great idea.
Priced to try and recoup some of the overspend.

Since I'm in Scotland, the poor relatives, my 120k mile 2.8i with HT, style 42s, sports seats and very extensive mechanical restoration probably wouldn't sell for more than 3.5k. Yet some people would suggest its worth much more...I have my doubts.

I once had a car for sale out on my drive with a - shall we say "optimistic" price. My friends said "You won't get many buyers at that price". I said "I don't need 'many'. I just need one".

Sometimes when a car doesn’t sell you have to increase the price. It does work.

Correct. You see that often with big Mercs. Big mercs really do go for a song and when you see a big S class for sale for £3999 people immediately think there's something wrong with it. Double the price and it would probably sell.

Having said that, since the 80's merc just don't make them like they used to. I had an ML. Lovely to drive. Super comfy. Fuel consumption wasn't bad either for such a big car and on kick down it went like sh*t off a shovel. But damn thing was a rust bucket and cost nigh on 500 quid to get through every MOT. My z3, on the other hand, always sails through it's MOT with a few advisories. Miles driven per year on both cars was about the same.

The chap has just dropped the price from £7995 to £6995. Still out of touch, there's one, same model, engine , mileage, year etc nearby advertised at £4400.

No, around 4k is what all the other similar cars advertised are priced at. That's why I was so amazed at the one at £7995. I looked at it thinking it was going to be a cheap Z4M !

You can add at least another 3K to that for a “cheap” Z4 M if there is such a thing and for that money it will want plenty spending on it!

Asking price now down to £5500! Reality setting in? I've seen the car and it is a very nice example with a rare specification from new. A car that would be admired anywhere, but I still see it at 5k tops. It was at the car show in Nottingham on Sunday so I know it's in excellent clean condition throughout, worth a look and sensible offer if anyone wants a very attractive car.

I know where theres a 2005 Z4 2.2 in rare Sterling grey for sale will be around £3500 80k. Doesnt have the same impact as the Red one for sale but a lot more realistically priced.
