Defensive Parking

A little defensive parking by this Zed owner spotted in Corby today as I parked up looking to do likewise.

The zed was an absolute 'minter', not so much as a nick on the alloys, paintwork was flawless and the OEM BMW mud flaps appeared pristine. Under the arches were spotless too. Presume a lady owner/driver as the seat was well forward. A real credit.

It's done as many miles as my zed had when I bought it.

Careful you don't get arrested for something, sounds like highly suspicious activity in a public car park, hell, I'd call 999 if I saw a bloke randomly doing that to my car!

You appear a little paranoid wanting to call the police for someone admiring a car as they walk past it to the store. No I wasn't crawling on my hands and knees inspecting the under arches but simply walking past where the cleanliness of the outer section was clearly visible.

I think it's due to them wanting to get a good look around your car Shelly and it saves them a few steps to get to it!! Also someone may get the wrong idea if they parked somewhere else and were lurking around your car looking like they were going to break in!! JIM

I would have parked next to it to keep it company

That's not really defensive, the spot to have is the one behind it, with off side wheels just on or over the line. No one will park next to it then and you can always get in.
As it is where its parked some idiot will park next to it compromising the drivers door, so you're stuffed.

The perfect spot is the one under the car port, they are often free as is the one in the pic. Not the easiest to get out of the car but saves you putting the roof up

Well I've been known to get a bit up close with a nice BMW in a car park..

Almost on hands and knees, wanted too see tyre size and profile, quite like the meaty look on these 17's..

I didn't think it odd until my daughter said whilst waiting in the car 'Daddy why do you always take pictures of cars..??'

The trouble with those car ports is some shoppers use them for thoughtlessly dumping their trolleys. So I cut my losses and avoid parking anywhere near car ports incase a trolley rolls off in the wind, gets knocked etc and bumps the car.

I do often take up 2 spaces if the car park is free enough. But I check the sign. If it says park only in marked bays then as it's plural it must be okay. If it says park only in a single marked bay I'll just park in the empty part further away

I was minding my own business working on the Zeds the other day when someone ran up the culdesac in a panic. His car had broken down and he was asking for a lift a mile away to pick his young daughter up by a deadline. Not really my sort of thing risking giving a complete stranger a lift but it was awkward to say no especially as it crosses my mind it could be an access to his kids issue if he got there late.

The nearest car to hand was my brother's Z3. So I told him to hop in. Stupid sh*t smashed the door straight into the breaker (which itself has decent doors)...

So you can't even risk parking too close on your own drive way!

Then he made things worse by promising me he wasn't casing the joint. I just took my chances and said that's just as well as I'll break any **ckers legs who turns me or my family over.

Anyway, all ended okay although bizarrely he left a half eaten pack of Hovis biscuits behind. Weirder and weirder.
