Anyone had this before - it came on when I got in the car early this morning and only the speedo would function?

Not been back on since and all the dials are working fine.

Yup. This happened to my car. At first if I switched off and on again normal service was resumed, but then it failed completely and only the speedo worked. I eventually sent the instrument pack away to Autotronics in Leicester who specialise in fixing all kinds of auto electronic problems. They tried all sorts of things but in the end had to replace the eprom chip. It now works properly and even better the speedo is now accurate, when it over-read by more than 10% before. The cost was £175.

You could try replacing the speedo with a used one and swapping the "coding plug" - as long as the mileage on the donor car speedo is less than yours you should be able to realign the mileage.
