OK, so now I've got some birthday money burning a hole in my pocket and I'm thinking of getting a Dash Cam.
I know as much about these as everything else, in other words sod all! Just looked on Halfords site and there are loads at varying prices - Help! Any recommendations folks?

I'm getting a Next Base 312 from Halfords to take on the Euro trip. It's got a "Best Buy" recommendation on Which too

Is it easy to have the one Dash Cam and use it in two cars, like two fitting kits?

I can vouch for the Next Base, got one recently and works a treat. It comes with a kit to hard wire in and portable "plug and play" wiring, so yes, you could use it in two cars.

We take one to Florida Ken and just use the cig. lighter/ power socket. Best to have it wired through ignition then it runs automatically from start to stop.

Get to Halfords before they shut and you can use it tomorrow  Just make sure you get a quality SD card. Ideally you will need a 32g to record a full days driving

If you don't get it for tomorrow Ken, check memory card prices at such as Car Phone Wharehouse.etc. Much less than Halfords prices I found that was for Sandisk too.

I have a Nextbase 312 in my sons car - dead easy to put in and set up. Very good value although I haven't looked closely at the video from it yet - not had cause to.

I had a Nextbase 420G in my Freelander for two years, but, the battery packed up although Nextbase replaced FOC longer after the warranty period was up. Sadly, afterwards it played up and would't record.

I replaced it with a 412GW and moved the 420G to the Zed after replacing the memory card. I'm still not sure its working properly, but, I'll be using a goPro with an external battery when needed.

The 412GW claims UHD but it isn't - its half way between HD and UHD. I use mine in HD mode. The higher resolution chews up memory at an alarming rate. I don't think the video quality is as good as the old 420G though. It isn't as sharp.

The memory cards take a real hammering as they're being used all the time you're driving. I've only managed to get 12 months out of a single card, but then thats with 15k miles of driving.

The current models are dead easy to move from one car to another - all you need is an extra mount for the screen and power cable. That plugs into the mount and the carer simply slides into the mount. You can leave the cable plugged in (and tucked away) and the mount on the screen. Even the old model is easy to remove, but, the power plugs directly into the camera so needs unplugging before you remove the camera.

Agree Tony - as long as they haven't tinkered with the footage to increase the contrast. It won't fare any where near as well on the dark country roads that we use though.

I was thinking it looked better due to less light "pollution" in the built up areas Ian? There is nowhere near as much street lighting in the US as there is here, where we go that is.

Well I ended up getting a Nextbase 212, it seems to do everything I need. Fitted it in my Audi just using the lighter connection, but I think I'll get another mounting kit etc, and hardwire it in the Z3. Then I can easily move it from one car to the other.
