Birthday pressy was a dashcam which I have fitted to the 335 touring so far. I didn't like having the big plug into the cig lightr/power socket so got the wiring kit and ran the cables to the fuse box in the boot.

There is a fuse box in the engine but it looked to hard work to strip the footwell out to find a way into the engine bay and easier to get to the boot. All working and no visible wires so pleased.

The question is has any body hardwired theirs into a Z3 as it looks just as difficult to get to the engine bay fuse box. My plan is to pull the centre console and piggyback off the ciggy lighter and run to another one hidden behind the footwell trim and the I can use the power lead that came with the camera all tied up and secured out of sight.

Hi Brian, when I put mine in the Z3 I connected into the ignition fed live to the radio, so it automatically starts recording as you start up and switches off when you turn the ignition off. HTH.

Tony.

Thanks tony good idea that saves some stripping out.

Much easier in the Z4 Brian as the fuse box is directly behind the glovebox. In that I just used an "add a fuse" connector to pick up an ignition fed live.

Ditto what Tony did. Mine is hard wired in to come on when you switch on the ignition (garage did it).

Also connected into the stereo feed from what I remember or just an ignition live somewhere behind the console. No need to go through to the fuse box. The cigarette lighter would also work but that is live all the time but hasn't been a problem for me in the past.

On the Z3 I used the permanent 12v for the interior light (had to plug, unplug it though which was a faff) on the Z4 there is a switched 12v at the interior light.
