Haven't had the car out for a few weeks due to all the snow. As I was getting settled in the car to start it noticed crack in the windscreen, B****R!!!

Got it out of the garage and you could see where it has been impacted just inside of the O/S windscreen pillar. There was no crack evident when I put it in the garage so I can only assume that due the cold weather the cracks have propagated even though it was under cover. I do remember hearing a stone hitting the windscreen last time I drove it but didn't see any point of impact.
I'll be on to insurance company tomorrow - ManningUK - to see about a replacement. There is £60 windscreen excess providing you use the approved repairer or £100 excess if you do not.
Anyone got experience of going through this exercise and what to watch for, as I want the proper OEM style windscreen with the green band across the top. I have hear on other forums that the windscreen replacement companies sometimes get the roadsters and coupe screens/seals mixed up.
Any help would be appreciated.

You'll get the correct look even with a budget screen, eg Safevue.. And it's a budget screen you are most likely to get unless you kick up a big fuss.

But it's of inferior quality to the OEM screen. My brother got sold down the river like this. The OEM screen is PPG (US). But something like Saint Gobain would be equivalent.

You need to be very clear when you report it that you want an OE screen. And it's the insurance company that dictate this NOT the windscreen company. You will likely waste your time arguing with the windscreen company.

Here's a comparison which should put things into perspective for you.

With the insurance company I have an agreed value which I will put forward as one reason to maintain originality by going for a OEM windscreen. See how it goes tomorrow.

I’m pretty certain with Manning you have the option to take it to BMW for a windscreen and pay £100 instead of £75. Best check the policy docs though.

Just checked my policy and it is as you say, £60 through their provider or £100 elsewhere so you can drop it in at BMW for £40 more and get an OE one.

You may need to pay up front and claim back if you go to a BMW dealer. When I spoke to Dick Lovett they said they wouldn't deal directly with the insurance company as it was a workshop not bodyshop job.

I'd insist on a new BMW rubber seal. Sometimes they try to avoid doing this.

Also, the MC seal is unique to the car, a roadster one is not suitable and many windscreen fitters don't know this.

Had mine go and had no trouble getting the insurer to agree to it going in main dealer ---just increased by excess up to £75 from £50.

The annoying point was I asked the dealer to fit new blades while doing it---they came back and suggested I take some Bosch in with me as the BMW blades were on 8 weeks back order but screen etc. was overnight

Final bill was actually lower than the estimate.

I paid and claimed it back, less excess.

Part quote included
B 51.16.8.398.505 cover £47.09
B 51.16.8.398.506 cover £47.09

but were not required.

Interesting.
Did that include the rubber seal around the window (it says repair kit on the invoice which is assuming is?)

All went well this morning with ManningUK, they have given me the go ahead to get an OEM screen fitted by my own resources. They went along with my reasoning that with my agreed value level I should definitely go for an OEM windscreen.
So on Monday I'll go to local BMW dealer to order new screen and seal, I just have to send invoice to ManningUK and they will refund less my £100 excess.

I'll keep you updated.

I don't know , the part numbers are different from realoem.com but the two items not required were the chrome surround ,existing came off OK to reuse.

Update - Took car in to get new windscreen fitted this morning only to find that wrong screen ordered. My car has the optional extra green band at the top, the screen supplied is clear standard screen. Seems when parts guy checked stock the optional screen was on back order from Germany so he elected to get the in stock standard screen. They informed me that it could take a few days or a few weeks, I said I’ll wait for the back ordered screen as the car is still driveable.

Latest update.
Replacement screen arriving today at Coopers Teesside from Germany and car booked in next week for fitting.

So allow approximately 4 weeks delivery of OEM green tinted screen if on back order.
