Think this guy has caught the Corona Virus
I should be immune Bill, my 2nd favourite beer in the US.
At my age, I am more at risk from the coroner
This bug is getting about now
The thing is, it's getting closer to us all without us realising, the world is such a small place these days. 2 doors up from us lives a guy who has a Chinese wife, her visa application was messed up so she can only stay here in the UK for 3 months at a time. She returns from China tomorrow, via Amsterdam where she has a 6 hours wait for a connecting flight to Humberside Airport. You can only hope that someone in authority is aware of her travel plan and she is healthy. Her husband has said they will "self-quarantine" for 2 weeks as he has shopped for them before she arrives.
I would think she will get checked at Amsterdam Airport @t-tony
99% of victims of corona virus live, that is the same as our normal seasonal flu. 256,180 people in China died in car accidents in 2018! (latest figures) I think that puts it in to proportion.
There has been an unverified case reported in Austin Tx. So far, so good where I am.
Reported yesterday on the TV news that the death rate from Coronavirus is around 2% of people infected whereas with Sars it was 10%.
The Dutch view on things.
The Netherlands is a world leader in research on viruses
The Netherlands is also one of the best countries in the world when it comes to research on viruses.
The SARS virus in 2003 was discovered with the help of a team from TU Eindhoven, which also discovered MERS.
So, the long and short of it is that we should we aware of the virus, but not afraid of it.
Agreed. When I was a child we were taught to cough into a handkerchief or if not to cover your mouth with your hand. This was at any time but these days we're reminded to do so only when Flu or a virus rears its head.
Perhaps it should be taught in schools again like it used to be? along with being courteous to othrr people.
Practical and sensible. Scary, too.
Agree totally @t-tony Basic good manners and courtesy costs nothing and are invaluable.
I wonder what the survival rate of man-flu is,
that is far more serious than this., it is a miracle we even recover at all....
there have been times that I was too weak to even lift my cup of tea and my wife has had to empty some out...
The main difference is that Corona virus is airbourne and Sars wasn't, Sars only infected 8000 people and 800 died, Over 40000 cases of corona and over 900 deaths, its going to get a lot worse before it gets better
And yet you see people in China looking after people with the virus using a face mask over their mouth and not their nose???
The eyes are just as open to the virus as the nose and mouth, this is one of the problems as we touch our eyes so much
True enough but an air born virus is directly drawn into the body though the nose and mouth through breathing.
Various tv news reporting with different medical professionals has stated that the masks are useless in preventing the spread of this virus.
I could be proven wrong but I believe this is a serious threat to the world’s population.
I’ve heard it’s contracted through the eyes, too.
