Following a recent comment on power steering cooling loops, I thought I would take the oportunity to do a proper clean up on mine. I cleaned it up in situ a couple of years ago but wasn't very satisfied. Once removed it is surprising how well they clean up. A gentle taliking to with a wire brush on the angle grinder and a dose of Jenolite.

A coat of primer and top coat and refitted.

Finished job.

Very nice. Looks great that and a job I need to do at some point. Do you just need to top up the reservoir afterwards?

Good job.
I did mine when I had it all in bits after the accident, also had to replace all the rubber mounts as two were totally seized and had to cut them off.

I found a couple of plugs to put in the rubber pipes to reduce fluid loss, when finished top up the reservoir and cycle the steering to bleed it. I had the front lifted so I did this while the weight was off the wheels. It took about three quarters of a litre.

Jenolite was one of Shirl's dad's favorite rust treatments. Stung like a bi*** if you got some in a cut though.

A well known older rust treatment, after the wire brush traetment there was no visible rust left, this is just a precaution.

Great job there Mike

I’m currently looking into getting some of these made up in Stainless steel and then powder coated.

That would be a great mod, fortunately mine wasn't too bad. It will probably do another 20 years but I know some of them are a lot worse and need replacement.
