Scion, we had those over here, quite liked the 'work van' look of it.

And Matra, gone now but used to be in the racing game?

Tony.

Can't see the problem, unless you were siting in the middle the morning after a curry. Talbot never were connected to Matra except for the Rancho.

When selling Talbots we had the Matra Simca Bagherra, Alpine engined, LHD only. In a showroom full of Sunbeams and Horizons it was quite an eye full

The Matra Murena drew heavily from the corporate parts bin, using engines from the Talbot Solara and Talbot Tagora, a transaxle from the Citroën CX, tail light clusters (but with custom lenses), steering rack and front suspension from the Talbot Horizon, front indicator and running lights from the Renault 12, and door handles from the Peugeot 505.

Stick that in your pipe Big Ears and smoke it.

But Joe Public didn't know that and it didn't have Talbot badging. What they were was Simca cars same as the Talbot range.

Panhard and Duesenberg are well know classics of their time, Duesenberg were a rival to Rolls Royce in 20s USA with Panhard being one of the first French car companies. So hardly think they are brands "you've never heard of".

Mind the NSU Ro80 Wankel motor was, how shall we say, not noted for its reliability.

I can think of a much more obscure list than that.

A friend of mine had one back in the very early 80's, pain in the bum is an understatement ....
Very expensive when new, more than a Jag!
Many fitted with Cortina 1600E engines after rotary went totally "Wankel"
Carbon build up ceased engines, service consisted of Red X down the carb and red line the engine done regular engine was OK.

My two favourite dead brands are Saab and Tatra although they still make trucks. A t87 or 603 would be on my lottery list, and am a huge fan of classic saabs.
