Z4 Coupe
I've wanted a Z4 coupe since I first clapped eyes on one about 12 years ago. At the time not very practical and too expensive but now in my price range and to be honest I've been dying to get my teeth into a project for a while.

Its a great looking car but not without its faults, its needs a little TLC. I've got a to do list which seems to be growing all the time.

Been thinking of doing a progress thread for a while now and after reading some great threads on this site, I think its time....

2007 Z4 Coupe 3.0si
Stratus Grey
Blue Individual Napa Leather Interior
6 Speed Auto
M Sport Seats
Piano Black Interior Trims
Xenon Headlights
The list goes on.....

Todays project... DAB retrofit

I found myself missing my DAB radio and I'm a bit of stickler when it comes to fitting genuine so I went for the BMW retrofit kit.

A quick summary of the installation process:

  • Remove centre air vent
  • Remove radio
  • Remove Glovebox, Kick Panels & L/H A Post Trim
  • Add radio wiring harness
  • Add aerial wiring adapters
  • Install Windscreen aerial
  • Install DAB control box
  • Test
  • Tidy wiring and re-install components
On the whole I'm happy with it and the installation was pretty straight forward, probably took about 2- 3 hours.

If anyone would like anymore info about fitting one of these, let me know. I've added some photo below to show the process and the finished installation. The remote can obviously be put anywhere but it seems to work quite well where I've located it.

While my steering wheels off being refurbished I thought I’d treat her to some new pedal covers. I was a bit sceptical how these would look but actually really pleased with them :)

Oh, nice Chris. Where did you get them from? And where have you been?!? You’ve been quiet for a bit.

BMW ones, like to keep it genuine ;) just been busy with work and a 3 year old. I’ve had few days off work undisturbed so just trying to get a few bits done.

I fitted similar on both my Z3 and Z4. Look so much nicer when you open the door and the blue footwell lights shine on them.

Started to change my corroded front fog lights. Drivers side done, what a difference! I can’t believe how corroded it was both on the outside and inside. Hopefully the newer versions have been modified, would not want to be paying out for these too often.

They look so much nicer Chris. I find these lights seem to deteriorate worse than the early round versions. As you said, not something you would want to be doing often.

Made a start on the big brake clean up. The front callipers and discs cleaned up really well and the callipers paint finish was pretty smooth. The rear however haven’t been touched for a while, corroded callipers, discs and not much meat on the rear pads. A major overhaul needed so a set of rear discs and pads fitted.
I went through a few choices of paint on the first calliper, originally painted blue then wasn’t sure so repainted silver, then decided it didn’t look right and put it back to blue. When you first look at it, the blue looks bright but once the wheels are on it transforms the car. 3 corners done, 1 to go.
