Good evening all! This is my first post after my introduction. I am new to the Z4 community and have a question concerning the lower seal of the convertible top around the back of the cabin.
I just received my rebuilt hinge cylinders from Top Hydraulics and am preparing to install them. When I removed the lower seal upon disassembly, there seemed to be some type of sealant(?) inside of the seal where it met the metal. I watched a couple of recommended videos to learn the process before attempting it.
When I removed the seal it seemed considerably more difficult than any of the videos I watched. My only theory is that perhaps that sealant was the cause of the difficulty. It really looks like a think layer of plumber's putty to me. Is this sealant something that I need to replace or renew before reattaching the lower seal? I want to make sure I complete this repair correctly and only have to perform it once, so I could really use the community's help.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!
