I been spraying rust penetrator for over a week now. Different types also, the bolt that goes to the pump from the motor has corrode away and stuck. Since the motor has no thread on it, I should be able to cut the top of the bolt off and remove the old motor and extract the remaining thread on the pump side. So issue is to find a replacement bolt since bmw only sells the entire unit. Anyone might know the bolt or substitute bolt I can use ?

I do have the convertible repair kit and those 2 bolts are not included.

You could try some heat from a blowlamp on the alloy corner where that bolt is and try gripping the bolt head with some molegrips to break the threads to start it unscrewing.

I have a 2000 ///M with an electric top. I sold my 96 1.9 with the manual top two years ago. I've never even LOOKED at the pump or the motor and I'm petrified to even take a glance at it. I'm afraid of what I might find. The top works well now. One thing going for me is that the previous owner took excellent care of the car and it had no corrosion on it. Soon, I'll just have to hold my breath and take a look. I just wonder, if it's in great shape, is there something I can do with the current setup to prevent corrosion without having to relocate the whole setup?...............Frankie

Thanks, Ill try that at my spare time... I actually order a working mustang motor for cheap.. so Ill tackle this at my spare time. Thanks for the suggestion.

I dont think there is any preventive task besides cleaning out the drain... if you have a scope camera, you can try to check it on a regular basis... otherwise it'll just fail one day when you're not checking

Relocating it to the trunk/boot is the best thing you can do to avoid any further problems, it also provides easy access to it for anything else that crops up, access to topping up the oil as well should it ever need it. Having said that its only going to need topping up if it develops a leak and if its from one of the lines then the roof would need comming out to get access to the lines and rams.

M5-.8-30mm bolt. I grab whatever my hardware store had at 99 pennies. Available in stainless, titanium or whatever you fancy

Direct fit. Same manufacture. Just different size. I only had to drain the old fluid from the mustang motor

is it bigger or smaller? i had relocated mine to boot, and it sits under some angle, as it too tall. so if mustangs is smaller - could be a good option for relocation. perhaps you can make and post picture of both side by side?

In post #6. The mustang motor is on bottom. bmw reservoir is about 2/3 shorter in length. I’ll have a photo maybe this weekend when I get my pump back. Friend is cutting that stuck bolt out for me. Picking it up this weekend

So it is even bigger then. Not a good fit for relocation therefore.

Yes I left it in the trunk the same as what a regular relocation with the reservoir on top. Its the same as any other bmw trunk relocation, just the reservoir is longer.
