Clutch pedal stop

My son fitted one to his Z4M Coupé and removed it in short order because it made proper clutch disengagement impossible. I fail to see how limiting the pedal travel can affect the bite point at all. If it's an inch down it's an inch down and going 2 or 5 inches past that won't alter where the bite point is, only how much overtravel you make in gear changes. Whoever it was who said it will reduce stress on the clutch diaphragm spring is right though. If you don't need to go that full 5 inches why over stress the clutch by doing it? And it will wear the cylinder seals to boot.
Get rid of the CDV and if you can, get rid of the fly by wire throttle abomination. It makes smooth manoeuvring very difficult due to the minute delay to the response. I know we're stuck with FBW but it is bloody awful.

FBW is awful, Ali moans about my gear changing in the e89 as being jerky :rolleyes: but say its as smooth as silk in the Z3M speaks volumes ........or I'm just too old school for modern machinery :whistle:

I agree Nodzed, I can drive my Westfield like a chauffeur with its real throttle and cable clutch, but the Z3 makes me reverse into my garage like a learner!

Probably the latter :whistle::)

I believe on the modern still like e89 you can have the FBW response mapped.

Some cars have mapped in as standard a lot of response on the first part of travel to make the feel quicker for example :confused:

oh and can’t believe 5yrs have last since this post. Still have my clutch stop and still love it.
And still on the original clutch at 136k miles (now I’ve tempted fate haven’t I!)

I've had a clutch stop for ages and it works great. No more pushing the clutch down further than needed. You can make your own quite easily, if I recall it was just a nut and bolt with a rubber chair foot thing covering the top of the bolt. Screw the bolt in as far as you need, with the nut down the bolt to stop it going in too far and pop the rubber cap over the bolt.

You will have to adjust by trial and error. It will depend on the state of wear of your clutch. A well worn clutch will be right at the top. By that I mean you will only have to press the pedal part way to disengage drive. On the other hand a new clutch will need to be pressed nearly right to the floor to clear. Personally I think these are pointless because you will subconsciously only press the clutch as far as needed without even realising it.

I'm glad I am not alone in that! My clutch pedal is never, ever, floored, but only just past 'release'. Not a conscious action, but automatic.

That is true mate but I haven't always. In fairness to someone such as yourself who does track their car I guess a pedal stop can be handy if you needs to just press the clutch and release as quickly as possible, but, for road use I think they are irrelevant TBH.
