Hello All
I am a66yr old male, living just west of Toronto Ontario. Semi-retired. I bout a 2000 Z3 Roadster last summer. 2.8ltr
135,000kms. Car runs great.I have always been a bit bothered by a clucking sound in the rear end when I put it in reverse and smaller ones when moving slowly in the upshift (automatic)

I have had BMW mechanic tell me this is in heritage of this car????. Is it? I am not a mechanic, but it does not make any sense to me
Does any one know about this?

Regards

Hi Peter.

Yeah this noise is common on the Z3. The diff looses its preload on the pinion bearing causing a bit of play. This is the clunk you can hear.

In my picture shows the crush sleeve. This is the culprit. It looses its elasticity.
