Hi all

Had a spare couple of hours this morning so decided to get the z3 out and give it a clean.

It comes up amazingly well for a 24 year old car, but the time has come to do the sill covers.

I have ordered them from Northampton BMW they were £302 for both sides which isn’t bad, I’m going to take them to the body shop along with the fuel cap to get them painted up, but in the mean time I’m going to take the old ones off and give the inner sills a good clean and treat and just hope that they are not to far gone 😳 the car has only covered 65k but not sure that will count for much.

I am going to purchase an angle grinder and some disks to clean the inner sills, does anyone have any recommendations? Also what have you all been using to treat?

many thanks

Sanding/grinding discs used on an angle grinder will remove metal quite quickly. Personally I would start by using a wire -cup brush on a grinder first. Such as these.

I used Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80 to seal off the steel once I'd removed the rust. Then painted with Rust Buster Epoxy Mastic Paint.

As Tony said I only needed to use wire cup attachments with a cheap corded angle grinder from B&Q for working on parts in the garden and has held up well for a sub £40 unit and borrowed my mates cordless Makita unit that uses the same batteries as my impact driver for working on the car in a lay-by.
