Cig lighter removal

Well, I don't really have a cigarette lighter, just some sort of a blank that wasn't even wired up. Anyway, I have been trying to take the thing off without success.

Am I supposed to rotate that plastic ring to somewhat aline with the cut as shown? The ring doesn't seem to rotate at all...

Mine just pushed out from underneath after I removed gear change panel for other work. If you do get it out pic shows wiring that should be there.F8557C07-E72B-45D8-8D8B-AFCF6E3D213B.jpeg

Mine just pushed out from underneath after I removed gear change panel for other work. If you do get it out pic shows wiring that should be there.
I found the wiring, but they weren't connected to anything, as the car was bought with the cigarette lighter delete option. What's in there is just a dummy to fill the gap, but it doesn't come off as easily as in your case.

So, the trick was to insert a small screw driver at the bottom of the dummy cigarette lighter, then twist anti-clockwise.
