Chromline handbrake button removal?

Does anybody know how to remove a chromeline handbrake button? I'm trying to figure out how I can add my Storm Motorwerks 'sleeve' button over the top, but the chrome button is slighty too wide for it to fit over.

I think I;ve read on here of somebody sanding down the chrome to make it work but that feels quite agressive so I was hoping to swap out the chrome one for a standard button before adding the Storm sleeve.

I kept sanding until it fitted. I used a small file. It probably took most of the silver off
