well i have had my z3 1.9 8v for a year know and although most of the time it is a good car its just not got what i like in a car power, iam not a speed freak but do like power on tap when i want it, have looked at a few 2.2 but fell that i have a rely nice car but fro the lack of power and could be disappointed in the condition of other cars , so the way to go is change to a z4 iam going to look at a 2.5 se looks different from the standard z4, try it and see if it is worth the change :meh:

Have you thought about a 2.8 or 3.0 Z3? There's some cracking cars out there if your prepared to put the leg work in. I am a really steady driver. (Ask Moz and Bill!!) and mines a 2.8. More than enough power for me and like you only use it occasionally. :coolsteer)

Phil, be watchful when looking at the Z4 when it comes to engines, particularly the 2.5. They started off with a more powerful version, then switched engines for a while to a smaller BHP one. Can't remember exactly when, but it's just something to check in to when you are browsing!

I had the 3.0 SE and it was bloody quick... The later 2.5 & 3.0 Si variants were more powerful and generally better spec'd.

Final bit of advice... The Z3 is more nimble than the Z4, which tends to drive more like a 3 series saloon in terms of ride. I missed the fun of the basic handling and had considerably less smiles per mile in the Z4, which is why I switched back again.

Why not the 3.0 Z3 if you can find a decent one?

Have you considered the Z3M with the 3.2L e36 M3 drivetrain and engine? Thats what I;m driving an it's pretty quick. Still upgrading the intake, ehaust and programming to try and pull a few more HP out of it.

I have a feeling that even if he drops the price and you purchase that those negative feelings will just keep niggling away at you and you won't be a happy camper! JMHO. JIM

The Z4 3.0se is the same engine that is in the Z3 3.0 and are more readily available. It really depends on what you want and what you are willing to pay for one. If you are looking at around the 4k mark then go for the Z3 if you are looking for around the 6k + bracket then you should find a nice Z4

well he as agreed to my price so know its up to me, more than likely i will have it the 3 for me does not have the midrange pull and as a every day car fine but as a weekend toy it just does not cut it, the 4 is a harder ride but you will get used of that, and plus it as the power that iam after,
