Hello All,

Does anyone know where I can get a key copied that doesn't cost the earth...?, I've looked at 'Timpsons' thinking they would be cheap..Owch: £300+ for a remote key copy.

I'm based in Brighton, (South Coast).

Peace.

I don't know why so much, I contacted BMW they priced a non-remote key for £62.

For a remote button key, the BMW dealer was unsure if/when they would produce it again, but he said he would get back to me after asking BMW.

BMW Sytner told me that remote keys were no longer available so I purchased two of the non-remote keys. Then a guy on eBay will cut from a picture and supply a new remote key for around £40. All I did was to take apart the non-remote key, remove the little black transponder and place it into the new remote key. A bit of programming and I have the full remote key for a little over £100

Hello,

I only had one remote key for my car and I was also advised by BMW that my key was no longer available, after a little searching I found a guy in Scotland, he cut and programmed a remote key at my front door, I placed the detail on the Forum a little while ago, I'll try and find it and get back to you.

It cost me £100 does everything it should, absolute bargain I thought, real nice guy too.

FOUND IT,

Until today I only had 1 remote key for my 2002 Z3, however I now have 2, as picture.
I’d always been a little concerned about losing my only key, considering the key is NLA from BMW.
I contacted a guy I saw advertising in Scotland and he travelled to the North East where he cut and programmed a new remote key at my front door!
He travels all over the UK supplying and coding keys, he is called Boyd and his contact number is 07762 725041, I can vouch for him and is highly recommended.

My original key on the left, new key to the right!

Total cost £100, for an extra £20 I could have had a flip key but wanted to keep some originality.
and save 20 quid😂

Thanks for the post, I called him, he sounds like a top guy :)
He is in Scotland, and does travel, he says he'll be in the south sometime this month...
Quoted me £100, or 2 for £170.
Really appreciate the info 'Dakar Z3'

Those remote keys can be bought on ebay then you have to get someone to cut the blade followed by having the key coded to the car. The ebay keys come with the internal central locking pcb and a blank transponder. The transponder can be coded to the car using an AK90+ key coding machine also available on ebay. Using the AK90+ is a bit hit and miss as it involves reading a chip in the EWS box on the car to download the data then uploading the data to the new keys transponder. I had no luck using the AK90+ machine and finally got a local mobile locksmith to code my new cut key to the car. Charged me £130 so the deal at £100 you got offered sounds good and saves a whole lot of messing about. My key was for my Z4, onlyhad one that came with it, the Z3 I have has a full original set.
Worth noting the blades on ther Z4 and Z3 are different types.
