Looking at serpentine belt replacement on my Z3 1.9, but how can I replace without removing viscous fan?

It can be done but is very fiddly and depends on which type of tensioner is fitted. Tensioner is just behind fan blades. Taking the viscous fan off is relatively easy - you just need a 32mm flat open jaw. This photo is with rad removed which you don't have to do on the M44.

Large flat screwdriver to jam on the housing bolts to hold everything tight and a 32mm spanner, its a left hand thread, watch you don't lose some skin when the screwdriver slips:whistle:. My advice? Buy the correct tools to remove the fan they are about £12 on eBay and will come in handy in the future

With time the spring loaded tensioner can weaken as well leading to belt 'chirp' or squealing even with a new belt. I've fitted a 10mm shorter belt to cure this.
