Hi, sometime in the near future I want to change the auto transmission fluid in my 2.2i 2001 roadster. I am not a mechanic but I want to do almost everything that needs to be done on my car myself!

I have been looking for a specific Z3 write-up 'how to' on this without luck but have watch a couple of youtube vids - looks simple enough.

will i need to replace the bolts [new ones] holding the pan?
how many litres does it hold? What brand or specifications?
any helpful hints to make the job easier and more efficient?

Looks like this kit will suffice - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/261327073398?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649

I have a trolley jack, 4 x stands, ramps plus extensions and all the tools. I also have the Bentley manual but I prefer your practical advice over that.

Thanks guys :)

I haven't done the transmission fluid yet, but I can't imagine that you have to remove the pan for a fluid change. There must be a plug somewhere..

There is and the fill hole os another type of plug much higher up. I also want to change the filter which is a large plastic thing directly under some components in the pan. If the screws are torqued it is likely they all will have to be replaced as the bolts will stretch. :(

Let me know if you find out something interesting please!

I can't see tranny pan bolts being torqued to a stretch point that would require their replacement every time a filter change is performed. So I don't think you need worry about those. JIM

I think he is referring to the sump pan fixing screws Jim. The kit I used supplied me with a set of new bolts/set screws along with the new filter and mounting bolts for that too.
