Passenger door has gave up the ghost it will not lock or unlock via the key fob or using the key in the doors.
Straight forward actuator?
Is it best to go new or from a breaker?

Either the actuator (which is shared with the E36 3 series if I recall), or possibly the boot loom of doom. Worth having a look at the loom as it goes in to the boot lid anyway!

Passenger door ........ will not lock or unlock ...... using the key in the doors....
To clarify if you mean that the passenger door will not lock/unlock using the key in its' own lock then surely that is a mechanical malfunction in the lock not wiring/actuator etc

The passenger door on my 2000 Roadster will not lock/unlock using the key in the driver's door. Also, pressing the driver's side lock button down (inside car) no longer locks the passenger door. I could not find a mechanical malfunction in the lock, wiring or actuator.

A few other Z3 owners I met have the same problem. Most are like me and just live with the problem.

Will not argue with that Geoff but once you've had the problems and fixed them it becomes an obsession/addiction to fix others ;)

Also when it's been fine and then stops working it's certainly not something g I wish to live with haha. Will check the loom and if not I've got an actuator lined up

@Davyhoogy - re my previous question what happens when you turn the key in the passenger door - does it lock?

When my Z3 N/S actuator packed up it did all this. You couldn't lock the N/S door with the key as there was only a key hole in the O/S door.

Didn't spot that Coiln, just wondered if it might have been an issue. Still put my brass on the n/s actuator.

Could be a linkage fault if it won't lock directly from the N/S key hole.

Sorry for completely ignoring you all =))
I'm not positive but I don't think it locks from the passenger door key either as I remember having to get in the car and lock it from inside! I'll double check this tomorrow night when I'm home..
That would hint towards linkage problem I assume

On an update to this thread also. Set off Saturday for zedfest and as you do I locked the car from inside so I could put my arm out the window, passenger side door locks...
From then on, all locks have operated as should from all buttons/keys.
Oh well.

That's a result Dave, long may it continue!
