Carsoft 6.5 on Z3

Does anyone have experience of carsoft 6.5 software ? Had it working? Used it on the Zed ?
I picked this up and have an old laptop running XP so gave it a go , all I get is the bad communication error , green light appears on the box briefly , wires connected through the r232 not USB And using the 20 pin socket under the bonnet .
Also tried this on my E46 320d and same error through the OBD socket under the steering wheel
Anyone shed any light on this for me it's supposed to work with these cars

Yeah I have it although not used it for quite a while. Are you running the correct exe file as there is a second "cracked" file that you have to replace the original one installed by the installation software.

I think so, I copied all files in the 'crack' folder and pasted them into the install location , which overwrites the original files, I then deleted Carsoft file and renamed CarsoftBMW65 to ' Carsoft'
Does that sound right

From memory sounds about right. Onlyotherthingi can think of is to make sure you have the correct com port selected in carsoft and also check the baud rate the port is set to in the windows device manager. Not sure off hand what it should be set at but start at 9600 as it should work at that speed.

Tried everything now, still no joy, still got this communication error , has to be the laptop will have to try another if I can get hold of one , real annoying

Have noticed one thing , the power light on the box is red , should that be green? Is this the problem?
Why would the light be red

Honestly can't remember if the power led is green or red. Problem is I don't have an XP laptop anymore so can't go and check. I guess trying another laptop as you say is the next step.

i am presuming the power is drawn from the car not the laptop, so maybe the battery is below the required voltage?
would it be possible for you just to connect the box to the car and see if you get a green light, no need to connect the laptop ?
this would then confirm this, may try running the car for a while to boost the battery or connect a charger

Sorry for late reply I will try and dig the interface out if I can remember where I put it and give it a go, maybe at the weekend though.

not a problem at all, i appreciate the help , i am on the verge of giving up on this i must admit
gonna see if i can find another laptop with the R232 socket, unlikely though

I have heard of people having problems before and it has been the car rather than the diagnostic kit that is at fault but it is all subject to trial and error to narrow down what is at fault.

Been another development in this little saga, I downloaded PA Soft BMW scanner and it works! But the software is not great , can't understand the codes either or find anything on web that tells me what they are
So back to Carsoft , so it has to be a software issue causing the communication errors , next step is a re install I think, or can anyone recommend any other software that is better and will work
