Excluding the front window, I'm considering tinting my Z3 side window areas and rear window of the hardtop, sometime into the new year all being well. I would welcome members' thoughts regarding window tinting generally and if any members have had their car windows tinted - if so, photos would be welcome?

Thank you.

David.

I've always been against window tints on front windows, but see the attraction of getting it done. Great during the day, but the fact it makes everything darker than it actually is at night is a worry.

Obviously needs to be legal, so you can't go very dark or you will get every enthusiastic policeman pulling you over with his light meter.

Can't help but think it's just going to be a pain in the back side overall.

Personally I wouldn't, but each to their own. Please make sure you are legal with the tint percentage.:(

I am considering tint on the side windows too as the sun here will kill you, and I do mean KILL. However few Zed seem to be done but if you Google Z3 and tinted windows you will see a few. It also gives a bit of privacy.

Too true mate it does give a "bit" of privacy but also reduces vision at dusk too. I know which I can live without to be honest. As I said its a personal choice.

BMW did apply a very light tint to the side windows as an option from the factory which my previous 2.8 had as it did start ever so slightly to peel off on one edge. It wasn't really noticeable until you opened the door and saw the difference but agree I wouldn't really be looking at anything greater than 5% to be honest and with the heated rear window it might look a bit pants anyway with the heater element possibly creating air pockets in the film.

You need to find what %age of light comes through now before you add any extra tint to the side windows. The rear can be as dark as you like but would ask what effect the heated rear window would have on the film.

See official view on tinting.

My thanks to all that replied to my query - I may well reconsider.

Sorry David, not my intention, just food for thought.:)

The Z3 has such poor vision with the hood, that tinting would just make driving dangerous, i think it would look nice with a nice subtle tint on the side windows, but just be careful with whatever you choose to do
