Advice please. Not z related but would appreciate any feedback as my Niece is buying a 10K car and asked me whether it`s worth getting a car warranty for £36 a month for three years on a 5 year old ford kugar.
I`ve done a search online for reviews and the majority of people have had a bad experience when trying to claim with very few good reviews. I`ve never been tempted myself in the past but she is looking for peace of mind. Thanks

I've never been tempted either but if it's peace of mind your niece wants, it's her that has to make that decision.

I had a secondhand car once with a 12 months warranty that when an issue arose (I can’t recall what it was), it wasn’t covered and therefore, I had to pay for the remedial work. Upon closer inspection, the warranty wasn’t worth the paper it was written on.

Depends on the warranty I guess. Had good value from a LR warranty. You have to keep the terms regarding servicing fully up to date. In the end, it’s an insurance policy. It just a drain on resources until the very moment you need it. Just read the T&Cs and exclusions. Check it includes all major electrical and engine components. Investigate the reviews of the company offering the warranty. See how they try and get out of paying. If they’re poor there will be a thread of common complaints. That said, it will be good for some. In the end, I sold my Discovery because no one included LR would cover the most expensive and common fault - crankshaft failure. £18k for a replacement engine
Having said that however, it seems most Ford Kugas are at great risk of being stolen. No end have been nicked around here. They seem to be a goto car for thieves

I'd advise her to put the £36 a month into a savings account to cover or go towards any repairs. These warranties on cars over 3yrs old are usually very restrictive and limited and in my opinion not really worth the expense.

She might feel differently so it's her choice really

That`s the way I`ve always gone. I hate giving advice to close family or friends, you can`t win. I`ve been her rock through thick and thin over the years and she values my opinion. I`d hate to say don`t get it and put the money by and something expensive happened. Then again I`d be gutted if she got it and the insurance people wriggled out of it. Rocks and a hard place comes to mind!!!! thanks for your thoughts everyone

I used to sell these. Simple answer is check who the underwriters are. If it's the manufacturer then go for it but if its insurance backed leave well alone.

Alan had car warranty on the car he’s got now :p
Something went wrong , but the car was brought about 20 miles away , not far I no , the garage said it would take a few weeks to do , and they wouldn’t supply another car , so in the end we paid to have it done at our local garage, to save all the messing around :)
Personally I wouldn’t bother :)

Good advice to put the warranty money into a savings account and use a local known garage for anything you cannot sort yourself, even use the savings for servicing and tyres as you need them.
