Fuzz Townsend stated that the MK1 MR2 is a better car than the Mazda MX-5 (Car Sausage). Bold statement, anybody owned both?

I've tested both and generally they're both rust buckets. I've driven both and the MX5 drives better and I've worked on both and nothing much between them. The original 1.6 Mazda engine was, like the BMW 6 cyl.motor nearly bullet proof.

Yeah Tony it was loke you say pity the rest of cars didn't have the same durability.

I drove mk1 and mk2 mx5s for 25 years. I preferred the mk1 and they didn't rust as badly as the mk2s. I like the look of the mr2s but preferred the retro look of the mx5. I also understand they are easier to work on. I've just donated my last mk2 to the local fire station for them to practise chopping people out of crashed cars. My 1996 mk1 mx5 will be following shortly. I've given up waiting for my useless family to contact car sos with a sob story to get it restored for free
