Doesn't say how it works.
After hearing what had happened to
@brilie last weekend, and I saw this, I wondered if it might have helped locate the missing car?

For the price (around £24) it has to be worth considering as we all have smartphones these days.
Tony.
Tony - I can't see how these things work. They connect directly to your phone so I think they are limited in distance from it.
To work in a car they have to connect to a mobile network and to do that they need a much bigger battery.
My sons bike has a GPS tracker built into it but needs to be charged regularly and you pay a data sim charge monthly. It will either text you if the bike is moved when activated or you text it and when it wakes every few hours it will text back. You then track it via a website.
I started to build a car version that uses a Raspberry Pi, Bluetooth module, GPS and GSM module. On the basis that I always have my phone when I drive, then if the car is moved without being paired it presumes it's being stolen then it will text you with its location. Connect via an app it would track it and also send a feed from the camera. Could easily add an emergency button. Could also make it a dashcam. Possibilities are endless.
Just didn't have the time to get it started properly never mind finish it, but I might get my son to take a look. The whole lot would be around £120 for the bits to put together.
