I need a car lift.
ideally something that can be moved around, scissor like mechanism, able to lift the car to waist height (or even more) so I can work underneath
what do you suggest?
back in the day, when I was in US, bendpak was the best, but they do not ship for reasonable prices outside US and Canada…

One like mine or Colb is the type of thing you want. Portable scissor lift. Platform height of 50 inches. I've made mine much more easily portable. I can get pictures for you tomorrow. The same item is available in the US under different names.

This is the same as the one I bought, although from a different seller. Also at a higher price. Having said that hasn't everything gone up?

It's quite easy to make them more easily movable if you have a smooth(ish) area.

Also came across these too. Might buy a pair.

This is something I have thought about, but it depends on the work you want to do. Some of these lifts would be no use at all if you wanted to swap your clutch out..If you just want to move the car around, wheel dolly's. It's horses for courses here I think... Sometimes you may want to lift the car on its wheels, other jobs might require lift by chassis.. A four poster would be my choice, if the wife let me do it.... My list to Santa is getting awfully long.. It started off as a bloody key ring...;)

I just want to lift it and have a wheels out cleaning twice a year. If I can also jet wash the underside would be a bonus.
pretty simple use.
used to lift my cars and do this but getting quite old and tired so I can justify spending on this.

I wasn't implying that you can use the lift to move a car around, simply to move the lift itself which is very heavy. I don't have enough headroom in my garage to raise a car to full height, even a Roadster with roof and windows down. It is possible to remove a transmission from a vehicle on this type of lift. If you have room for a full size workshop lift you will find a 2 post is far more versatile, generally, than a 4 post.

I live in Uk and only have a council garage, so not enough space for a 2. or 4 post, and no head height above 6', so I am interested in any ways people have found around this sort of issue - I have generator for power if needed.

Look at QuickJacks. They lift the car about 1m so makes for a nice working height. Around the £1000 mark

I have one of these and may never use it again. It is really useful if you want to get REALLY good access to either the front or rear. I also need to add about 50kg to the boot to balance the car. You can hand crank it, but get yourself a high torque drill (about £100), or you'll be knackered before you start. Google "bohrhammer".

I use a Quickjack. It was on offer at Costco for £900. The Z75 is actually in the air on a pair now. The only "problem" is the current draw is about 70A, so you need a good set of jump leads and a fully charged battery, or a running car to operate them.

There are several different sizes to choose from. Mine is the BL-5000SLX. It fits the Z3, but is too long for a Smart Car.

I don’t need to add any ballast to any thing on my lift and you can’t “crank” it because it has 2 hydraulic rams driven by a single phase motor. I’m not sure which one you’re confusing it with? And yes, you can put a Smart car up on it.

Mine must be a different scissor lift. I bought it from @Nodzed . It's the Quicklift that's too long for the Smart Car, but the scissor lift is not very useful for the Smart, as you can't drop the undertrays.
