So yesterday I went through the same old routine that everyone does when renewing their car insurance. Jumped on the first comparison site i could think of to get a rough price.

Keeping in mind I'm 27 and drive a Z3M the renewal was £627 and even for me that was high. My lowest quote came in at £458 by LV.

So I gave Adrian Flux a call and the haggling begun. They did'nt even try to push the price up they matched the quote I got to within £10.

But......

They had some offers i might want to attach to my policy that they pay for not the broker themselves.

1) For £39.99 a year they will remove my excess and pay it on my behalf if i ever need to claim.
Yes please.

2) For £24.99 the cover i get when i drive other peoples cars is only 3rd party but they will upgrade it too Fully comp with all my current benefits almost like a traders policy. Only diference being the car has to be insured.
Yes please.

3) This was a question i asked them, I keep hearing horror stories of people having to claim, find out their car is a write off and get offered peanuts for it. So i asked for an independent evaluation to be carried out and a fix'ed price agreed. She told me yes we can arrange that would you like me to arrange it. So in the new year my M will get a real looking over.

Summary:

Car is insured for 20,000 miles Social, business, commute all modifications and engine parts are declared.

Myself my dad and the better half are on the policy and everything quoted above for £600

I'm quite happy with that specially if I get a fixed price payout agreed.

You're only 27? You've had a hard life!

Great rate that, never heard of some of those extras, interesting.

I was with ADrian Flux until this year, they put the price of my policy up.

I tried Chris Knott who advertise on here, said I didn't have the renewal quote in front of me, so they quoted blind and beat it by about 20% from memory.

Merry Christmas Lee and family

Those are some nice options, particularly the agreed valuation. Any idea who they choose to value your car, I know the Car Club offer a valuation service to their members but would mean joining to take advantage. Not sure how accurate they are on pricing though...

They get a company called QDOS to independently inspect your car. Things like mileage, Condition, other prices on the market (1 Z3M at the moment) Those Z3M's going for 20k plus only bumps mine up.

Fully comp protected no claims £117 12000 miles a year with Saga.
Just gave my age away ;)
I thought that was very good like the idea of a valuation must look into that, as I didn't like the offer from we buy any car.

Mine's up 5th Jan, but Saga is quite reasonable for us veterans

I would hope that at 42 I would be starting to see cheaper premiums, but really not keen on paying out £370 for the next 12 months.

Usually if you can accept higher excesses the premium will reduce but only you can decide if it is a worthwhile risk. Plus we are all paying towards coverage for uninsured drivers still, and that annoys the hell out of me.

As usual I leave things a bit late, and got a nagging call from my current insurer about the policy which expires on the 3rd. Get them off the phone and try the nearest broker to me which is A-Plan Thatcham (had to go with easiest option as the time is against me).

Managed to get the premium down £45 to £299 for the year, which will do me fine! Includes my 18" alloys, protected no claims discount, much lower excess, £30 for legal cover etc. Can't remember who the actual policy is with though...

The mileage is not monitored but can become an issue if you have and accident and need to claim.

hi mileage is monitored through your mot which they can check back many years, thats how they catch people out, my insurance was £350 last year, because as i found out the z3 does not fall into classic insurance, my same year mgf VVC cost £120 which is a lot faster car than my 1.9 z when i asked the question why, the insurance told me that mg drivers were safer drivers, as i said same driver different car:confused: go figure, lets wait for all the flat cap comments=))
