Has anyone had to get a car transported using a courier? Any recomendations? Looking to get my Z3 moved from Sussex to Glasgow and have been quoted around £450 with Anyvan which seems reasonable, but never done this before so not sure if it is!

Thanks!

Local companies to me are £1 per mile each way.
I’ve had mixed experiences with Shipley, but good recently

I used Shipley a couple of times been OK.

You need to make sure car is being transported on a transport vehicle and not driven up by a driver.

Shiply has quoted me to move a Z4 from Warrington to East Sussex the price of £250. If you wait until Monday, there is a chance certain lockdown restrictions will be lifted in the near future. Nothing is cheap!

I used Anyvan to transport my Z4 from Essex to Northumberland, cant remember the cost I think it was around £250. They were very good received lots of emails detailing progress. The seller was happy with the collection, the truck and trailer collected and delivered another three cars on its way to me. Anyvan asked to change the original booked date to fit with their other collections but this was no problem for me or the seller.

Thanks for the replies! I think I'll probably go with Anyvan, but will wait until BoJo give us more information on Monday.

This will be a long scary story but every time car shipment is mentioned it comes to mind.

Years ago I lived in Seattle and one of our guys was moving from the West coast to the East and the company was paying the bill. He called several companies and got quotes before he agreed on one. Normal questions from where to where and when.

He was traveling sooner so left the car and keys at the office. One day a large truck and trailer full of cars arrived and came in asking for the car. Said they were a day early but could take it then. So our service manger who had the keys turned them over and they took the car. The next day another truck arrived saying they were to collect the car.

The second truck was from the company that been hired. Turns out it was a common scam and the first truck was from a company that but in a very high bid.

His car was turned over and signed for and everything was legal. That company did delivery the car but he had to pay about three times the cost.

The second driver told us what had happened and he was perfectly correct. Since the companies had all the information they would give you a high quote but come around hoping we would do exactly what would happen. Car was turned over and signed for. On the other end it was all legal cash before delivery and they had your car. Easy and legal scam.

That's pretty worrying that people do that! So far I haven't given any specific information (just cities) and no concrete dates so I think I should be fine!

If you fancy driving it yourself I’ve used transporter hire a few times without issue, worked out really cheap. Can’t remember the website name but if you google car transporter hire they’ll come up. I know there’s a branch in Glasgow as that’s the one I used.

The original plan was to fly down and then drive it back up, but with Covid and all that lot it makes it a lot harder to do that.

I used Shiply last year during lockdown when I bought my Z3. Had it moved from Worcestershire to Hampshire. Cost around £400, turned up on a beavertail.
Process was quite painless.

I've just sold a car. Buyer is using Shiply. Oxford to Chester for £185. Probably add VAT to that.

Hmnn, my problem too, I have an engine to pick up in Warrington, can’t really justify £100 to a courier for a £75 scrap motor. £35 quid of diesel would cover it were the mad fish not so adamant nothing and no one crosses the border.

Lots of car transporters don't have the right insurance as they don't have an operator's licence.

Quote from the link...

"A ‘breakdown’ or ‘recovery’ vehicle transporting a non-disabled car from one garage forecourt to another would be classed as a haulage operation, despite what the towing vehicle might look like.

Such a journey would fall within the scope of ‘carriage of goods for hire or reward’."

Ask about their operator's licence, or take the risk of damage not being covered by their insurance. Shipley do ask for a copy before you can post on there, but some websites also ask if you are over 18 ;) .
