Can't reinstall center console

Hi guys,

I followed the instructions posted on this forum and every other z3 forum about how to remove the center console on my 1997 se 1.9. I needed to replace the shift bezel and some switches. I actually got it off with only a little trouble. Now though, I can't get it to fit back in at the top. It's like the console is too wide to snug up under the center AC vents. The main sticking point seems to be on the top right side.
Do I need to angle this a certain way, or should it go back without all this fighting?

could be snagging on the handbrake preventing the final push needed to offer up to the vents.

Nah. The handbrake is well out of the way. Besides, I can plainly feel the resistance on the top right. I know this is an oddball problem, I just wanted to know if I'm missing something

Withdraw it slightly then lift the front up so it is level with the bottom of the dash/vents, then slide forward. As it is, it indeed is too wide as it is too low down.

OMG. Following this advice, it took about 5 seconds to get it into place. Since it seems like most people are Brits here I'll say I feel completely gormless. Thanks, lol.
