I am trying to find a scanner that will read the car's mileage from the OBD2 port or is it impossible because the mileage is stored on the circuit board in the instrument binnacle?

That's good news, thanks.
Does anyone know of a cheap reader that can access the mileage?
I am fitting classic clocks and dash but the new odometer reads hours (like a boat), I need to be able to compare hours with miles as I have a limited mileage insurance.

Not at all sure you will get that to work without the original instrument cluster being operational as I think the mileage in the cluster is contained in the coding plug on the cluster, the other place its stored may well be the headlight switch pcb and the two compare what each has in them, any mismatch will result in a tamper dot appearing on the odometer display on the instrument cluster.

Original cluster is still in the car, speedo, rev counter fuel and temp gauge motors removed and placed in new housings.
