Cam Shaft Position Sensor

I have a 2001 Z2 Roadster with the 2.5 engine. I recently got an error code P0365, which recommends replacing the camshaft position sensor (exhaust side). I replaced the sensor and then cleared the error code. I then started the engine and the Service Engine light stayed off. I then shut the car off and restarted the ending and within 2 seconds the Service Engine Light was back on. I thought that I might have gotten a bad sensor so the parts store swapped it out for a new one. But when I installed the second sensor and cleared the error code. The Service Engine light comes back on when you start the car for the second time after replacing the sensor.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is it possible I need to but an OEM sensor?

Thanks!

Did you clear the original code when you fitted the replacement sensor. Clear the code with your scanner and rescan to see if any codes come up.

Yes, we did this at least a couple times. I had "Auto Zone" do this with their scanner.

I agree, up to a point. You can buy OEM quality sensors at less cost than Genuine BMW, I know, I did.

Another vote for only using OEM sensors. I replaced both inlet and outlet with Febi sensors. Inlet sensor had packed up after 6 months. Just replaced with OEM (as I'd been advised on the forum ).
